How to Care for your Diamond?

How to Clean your Diamond?

Use one part of Ammonia and six part of your water.  You can get ammonia anywhere and mix one part of this in a cup with six part of water.  You may use a gentle brush to scrub off any dirts and oils, but please be careful not to overdo it. Harsh scrubbing can scratch the metal prongs and sometimes may loosen the protective prongs for your diamond.

Use those ultrasonic jewelry cleaner machine you can buy almost anywhere.  This machine is simple to use, just mix in ammonia with six parts of water and set it on and voila your diamond will be cleaned automatically.

This ultrasonic machine will create millions of tiny bubbles that can clean all nooks of your diamonds no brush can reach.

Bring your diamond to the local store where you buy it from. Most of them offer this service free of charge.

Clean your diamond at least once a year, bring them to your local jewelry store and they will also check to make sure that your diamond is not faulty, for instance, loose clasps, broken prongs, or chipped diamonds.

I recommend periodic cleaning of your diamond to preserve its brilliance and luster.

How to Store your Diamond?

Always store your diamond in the jewelry box or pouch provided to you when you buy your diamond. Diamond is the hardest susbstance on earth and they are highly resistant to damage by heat or scratching.

However if you put your two diamonds together, they may scratch and cut each other.

Put your diamond in the jewelry box/pouch in a safe place, for instance your jewelry safe etc.

Can a diamond be scratched?

Yes.  Eventhough diamond is the hardest substance on earth, if you put two diamonds together, they can scratch eaach other.  Diamond is highly resistant to damage either by heat or by scratching, however, when introduced to extremely hard blows by the girdle, your diamond can be chipped or be loosen up from the protective clasps.

Always check to  make sure your diamond is safe within its protective clasps to prevent any loss.

How to Check for scratches on my diamond?

When your diamond is scratched badly, you may be able to see the scratches under the naked eye without the aid of looping hole.  If you feel that you have scratched your diamond but you cannot see the scratches, you have two options.

Bring your diamond to your local jewelry store to be checked out. They have this huge magnifying glass that can detect any surface imperfections on your diamond. They can tell you if your diamond has been scratched or not.

Buy those mini looping hole that functions as a magnifying glass. They are relatively cheap and you can use this to constantly check up on your diamond.

Can a diamond be repaired?

It all depends on how bad your diamond is damaged. If the damage is real bad, for example, a huge chip off your diamond, it may be hard to fix your diamond.

The local jewelry store experts may try to chisel off the diamond to reduce the chipped look, however it will result in a poorer cut for your diamond.
